Born in Ethiopia to a Swedish mother and Italian father, I grew up in neighbouring country of Djibouti, a then sleepy french colonial territory. The vibrant colours and the sun most of the time at its zenith, I was barely blinded by it. Djibouti was a safe place with proud local people but the western structure didn’t convey a proper understanding of a viable society. The food was imported, there was no industries and the money seemed to come from elsewhere. As the land was mostly arid stones and sand, the sea revealed beauty and colours hardly describable with words.

At fourteen I moved with my mother to Sweden, a welcoming and safe country where the winters are long and dark being balanced up by following spring and summer. I am still amazed that nature can produce the variations of green leaves and pasture found in nature during the spring, from transluscent to blueish. Amazed also by the different textures of snow, soft and fluffy, malleable and wet, icy and crystalline. The nature has indeed been my teacher, a moment when time dissolves into non linear.

I’ve gone though some art schools but missed the playfulness and non conformity of being in nature and paint. So now I paint in plein air ”alla prima” with oil on canvas.

I strive to convey the full wholeness of nature in my paintings.
